What does the daisy wheel on a hot water bottle mean?

Hot water bottles are manufactured in line with the British Safety Standard - BS 1970:2012 and undergo rigorous testing to ensure they are safe.  As part of this standard, a batch code-date of manufacture in the form of a daisy wheel symbol is used to indicate the date of manufacture used by the manufacturer for traceability.

Though there is no legal regulation regarding the expiry date of hot water bottles, their replacement is recommended two years from the first time of use, rather than by date of manufacture.
