Overview

We have created two versions of our data that are formatted for import into Shopify. Importing products is now easier than ever thanks to recent improvements made by Shopify.

Increased variant limit per product

Shopify has significantly increased the maximum number of variants allowed per product, from 100 to 2048 variants. This removes one of the biggest limitations when working with large colour and size ranges and makes managing large product catalogues far simpler.

Thanks to this change, products no longer need to be split into multiple batches purely to work around variant limits, which makes imports quicker, cleaner, and far easier to manage going forward.

 

Important Shopify variant upload limits

Important: if your Shopify store contains 50,000 or more variants, Shopify applies a daily rate limit when uploading variants via a CSV file or a third party application.

Once this threshold is reached, you can upload a maximum of 1,000 new variants per day. This can significantly slow down imports for large product catalogues.

Our full product catalogue contains approximately 100,000 SKUs. Because of this, it is essential that you filter the data files before importing so that they only include the brands you intend to work with.

There is currently no workaround for this daily rate limit on standard Shopify plans. This limit does not apply to stores on the Shopify Plus plan.

Compatibility with previous data

Important: the new Shopify data format is not compatible with the previous format. To migrate to the new format, all products that were created using the old format must first be archived or deleted from your Shopify store before importing the new data.

Pricing and data preparation

Important: pricing within the data files is provided at standard pricing. Customers must update prices within the file to reflect their own pricing before importing the data into Shopify.

We strongly recommend reviewing and amending pricing as part of the same process used to filter the file down to the required brands.

 

Import options

The basic files can be imported directly into Shopify with no additional tools required.

If you choose to use the extended versions of the data, which include additional fields and enhanced product information, you will need to use a third party application such as Matrixify.
