What are sustainable materials?

 

The textile industry is continually evolving through innovation, responsible sourcing and the increased use of preferred fibres and materials. While no material is entirely impact-free, some fibres and materials have the potential to deliver improved environmental and/or social outcomes compared with conventional alternatives when responsibly sourced, produced and managed.

At Ralawise, our Sustainable Materials tag identifies products that contain materials meeting our published qualifying criteria for preferred fibres and materials. Our approach is informed by recognised industry guidance, including Textile Exchange’s Preferred Fibres and Materials framework, which identifies fibres and materials with the potential to deliver improved environmental and/or social outcomes when assessed using recognised methodologies.

Products displaying the Sustainable Materials tag contain one or more qualifying preferred materials. Where applicable, material claims are supported by recognised third-party certification or verified information provided by our brand partners.

As no material is impact-free, the Sustainable Materials tag should not be interpreted as an overall environmental assessment of a product. Instead, it is designed to provide clear, transparent and evidence-based information to help customers identify products containing qualifying preferred materials and make more informed purchasing decisions.
