In this latest phase of our Outerwear campaign, designed to help you focus your promotional efforts and step up your sales, we’re exploring the essential role of midlayers.
This hugely flexible category is best described as an item of clothing that can be worn alone, over another layer or under a layer, to keep the wearer warm … think knitwear, sweatshirts and hoodies. Hugely versatile, and a go-to item for times of seasonal change, midlayers are designed to trap heat whilst looking stylish, whatever the weather.
THE TECHNICAL DEFINITION
When it comes to layers, there are typically three main aspects to think about. The first, baselayers, are worn next to the skin to create warmth and trap moisture – you can read more about baselayers in Part 1 of our explainer
blog, here. Midlayers are worn for insulation and warmth, with the outer layer for protection from the elements.
‘Midlayer’ applies to a whole range of garments, all with two things in common – comfort and versatility! These layers are designed keep you warm whilst still being breathable enough to let moisture escape, so you’re not left
feeling clammy or cold. They offer a good level of protection from the elements but aren’t often designed to be waterproof.
