A WARDROBE STAPLE

Whether for corporatewear or leisurewear, every wardrobe needs a piece of outerwear designed for rainy weather. Just how performance-led the garment needs to be will depend on how and where it’s going to be worn and for how long. A well-designed jacket is suitable for most occasions. However, for a field-based workforce or for demanding outdoor activities in poor weather over extended periods of time, options such as a full rain suit will offer more protection.

The important thing is: whatever the weather, there’s a waterproof solution available to help you elevate your business and generate outstanding results.

 

WHAT MAKES A RAINCOAT RAINPROOF?

The key differentiator between a raincoat and a general winter jacket is the coating used on the fabric, which allows it to repel water.

A water-resistant jacket is likely to have a durable water-repellent (DWR) coating that increases the water resistance and prevents the surface layer from becoming saturated. However, as they often don’t have fully taped seams, they are most suited to limited exposure to rain.

A waterproof jacket offers more robust protection, as it will have fully taped seams, so water cannot get into the fabric. This could be a thin layer of waterproof coating applied to the inner surface of the fabric or a DWR coating, often with a waterproof membrane, that’s bonded to the underside of the fabric to ensure its breathability.
